A Jazzmonauts side project featuring Tim Caskin on saxophone, TJ David on guitar, Matthew Trinidad on bass, and Chad Patrick on drums. The Sunlight Lab blends traditional and modern jazz, with a repertoire spanning the American Songbook to avant-garde influences. Their adaptable setlist suits a variety of venues, and their dynamic sound is quickly making them a fixture in the Roaring Fork Valley jazz scene.

Tim studied music at George Mason University and Northwestern University, performing as a featured soloist and at the United States Navy Band’s International Saxophone Symposium. He later pursued a PhD in Music Education before transitioning to a full-time music career in Colorado. Tim performs with The Sunlight Lab, The Jazzmonauts, and Beep Bop Boop and teaches through Jazz Aspen Snowmass In-Schools, the Aspen Music Festival and privately.

TJ developed a passion for jazz in high school, founding his school's first jazz band before studying jazz and performing arts at Skidmore College. After a decade-long break to pursue professional athletics, he returned to music during the pandemic and quickly became an active performer in the Roaring Fork Valley. In 2023, he founded the Roaring Fork Valley Jazz Jam at Steve’s Guitars.

Matthew studied theory and performance at CU Boulder, playing in jazz combos and big bands. Though he later pursued law, he remained active in music, working as a session musician, performing in various bands, and collaborating with Grammy-nominated artist Katie Herzig. After a long hiatus, he has returned to performing.

Classically trained in NYC, Chad shifted from orchestral percussion to drum set performance. He plays with The Confluents, Party Party, and various theater productions, as well as participating in hand drumming and world music events. Chad is on the faculty of JAS In-School Education and teaches throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.
